Widget bucks ad placement

A common question many people have is were to place widget bucks on their blog and what ad units to use.  This will depend widely on the template of your blog but hopefully this article will help you make the right choices.

Wide Skyscraper 160X600  The skyscraper is great for blogs that get many page views a month and ones that are very product specific.  If you are using this it will be hard to use or combine other banners because you do not want drive your views away by inundating them with ads.
Skyscraper 120X600  The same applies for the 160X600 banner.
Medium Rectangle 300X250 By far this widget will be one of the best ones to use.  The 300X250 ad has been known to get more click throughs then any others out there.  It’s best used when you can wrap text around it or as a side bar on the top before other threads.
Leader board 728X90  the leader board is primarily used at the top of a website.  This can help brighten up your page if you have little pictures.  the nice thing about the top banner is you can still use other ads with this one.  Having a leader banner and a 300X250 on a site seems to work very well for many bloggers.
Full Banner 468X60  I personally like to use this one as more of a filler.  The length is perfect for those spaces in between posts.  Because the height is not intrusive it will blend in with content.
Blog Sidebar 160X300  Depending on the theme of your site many people like to use this on the top right in the side bar instead of the 300X250.  This is because on some templates having the width at 300 is just does not look right.  If you can fit the 300X250 in and have it look nice I would go with that instead but even on some of my sites it just does not look right and the 160X300 is the way I go in those cases.
Custom 660X330 This ad just screams look at me.  More often then not it’s very intrusive and not a good header for your site.  At the same time it does work for the bottom of the site.  I have seen these type of adds placed in the middle in between posts and it can be done but when you do that you really need to lay off placing other adds on the sidebar.  Of course you can place more adds but it will be harder to keep readership because many will see your site as just an advertisement.

The best over all way to see which ads to use is to do testing.  Place an ad you and track the click through rate.  After a week you should get an idea of how it’s performing.  Keep switching them around till you find the layout that will bring in the highest ctr.  widget bucks can be profitable you just have to know how to work it.

what sites to use widget bucks on

Now that we have a great product like widget bucks you need to be able to place it on your blogs so that it will actually bring in cash.  Sites that talk about social issues or that are not product driven will have a poor click through rate for widget bucks.  On the other hand if your site is focused on products widget bucks can give you great click through rate.  This is because of the great looking images that attract your readers eyes.  The fact that the banners rotate in and out featuring different products will help to catch your readers attention.  The thing here is your readers need to be interested in those products.  If your blog or forum is not specific you will run into issues because your users will not be interested in the products.

How to place widget bucks on a forum

I have several phpbb forums.  If you have a widget bucks account you know the frustration of trying to place widget bucks on the forum.  The good news is you can do it.  I’m not sure if this is the absolute best way but it works great for me and my forums.

You will need to sign up for adbrite.  You can do that at adbrite.com.  The account is free and it’s also an alternative source to use in case widget bucks ticks you off one day.  The reason we are using adbrite is because adbrite lets you use other affiliates in it’s place whenever it is better for you.  After you create an account go to the “manage ad Codes” tab.  click create a new ad zone and select banner adds.  Now if you just want the banner and nothing else make sure the full page and in text boxes are unchecked and hit next.  Now you are going to choose your ad specs.  Make it the same size that you want you widget bucks add to be.  Hit next to describe your site.  Fill in the information for the site.  THIS IS IMPORTANT:  Once you are done filling in your site info hit next and be sure to CHECK YES for the question Are you already using other ad networks?.  Now for the eCPM make sure you set it at a high number.  Something like 2.5.  This will make it so your widget ads will be shown unless adbrite can get you a high income then that.  widget bucks will most likely show up most of the time because you ECPM is set high.  If you want widget bucks for sure then just set the eCPM higher.  Now login to your widget bucks account.  Once there  create a new add that matches the same dimension of the  adbrite ad.  Be sure and select a  category and product to show on your site.  Now paste that code into you adbrite alternate network.  I would also reomve the star and end hidden tags for widget bucks.

Now just place the code on your site and wait about 30 minutes and your adds will show up. You now are showing widget bucks on your forum by using the adbrite technology!!!.  I’m not sure

Widget bucks and you

October 29th, 2007    Subscribe To Our Feed

I am new to widget bucks and have been an adsense advertiser for well over a year now. Personally I have tried other programs out there besides adsense and am glad another one has come to the market.  I like having multiple avenues of income from my blogs.

widget bucks is not for every blog.  Your blog needs to be product based in my opinion to have widget bucks work for you.  If your site is product based  you should see great ctr and your income from that will be nice.  If you run a blog that is not about products then having product based adds on your site may not be the way to go.

The first time I had incorporated widget bucks on a blog it seemed to slow the blog down.  Over the last week widget bucks seemed to resolve this issue.  I have to admit the free 25 dollars for signing up did not make me jump at the offer but I thought it was worth an hour of my time so I did sign up.  The minimum payout is $50.00 and after a week I am there with the 25 dollar bonus.

whats your take? Do you like what you see on widget bucks so far and what do you not like?  Has anyone had issues incorporating it into their blog?  what CTR hav eyou been getting and has the money been better per cpc then adsense.
